SmashUp! Badminton is a modern mix of mates, bass-line pumping music and big hitting badminton challenges that aims to make any session a social hub. Badminton England’s vision is that Smash Up sessions are a vibrant place where the usual rules don’t apply, tradition is laughed at and where the players set the tempo then define the boundaries.
Developed by StreetGames and Badminton England, the workshop provides learners with game ideas and challenges to introduce this new form of Badminton to young people in their community.
Participants combine their existing coaching and leadership skills and experience with the games and challenges in the workshop to learn how to engage young people in badminton for the first time.
Aims of the workshop:
- Understand SmashUp! badminton and the fundamental skills needed to play
- Deliver SmashUp! activities to groups of young people
- Understand and apply basic rules for informal SmashUp! games
- Organise SmashUp! challenges and social competitions
Who is it for: Community sport project leaders, coaches and volunteers.
Additional Information: It offers the chance to build on skills previously gained through courses such as the Sports Leaders UK Level 1, 2 and 3 awards; national governing bodies of sports awards; and youth and community qualifications.
